The Allen-Bradley 1756-A17 is a 17-slot ControlLogix chassis designed to house and interconnect ControlLogix modules including processors, I/O modules, specialty modules, and Encompass partner modules. The chassis backplane provides a high-speed communication path between all installed modules while distributing bus power through embedded electronic circuitry to each slot.
As the largest standard ControlLogix chassis available, the 1756-A17 is ideal for large-scale or complex automation systems that require maximum I/O density and processing capacity within a single rack. The chassis is designed for horizontal back-panel mounting only, and modules can be placed in any available slot, providing full flexibility in system layout and configuration.
The 1756-A17 includes 10 mounting tabs — five on the top and five on the bottom — for direct panel mounting to the enclosure subpanel. It supports installation with or without SEM screws. Maximum backplane current supply is 1.5A @ 1.2VDC, 4A @ 3.3VDC, 15A/6A @ 5.1VDC, and 2.8A/2.8A @ 24VDC, with a chassis power dissipation of 6W. The chassis weighs approximately 2.20 kg (4.8 lb) and requires a minimum cabinet space of 76.2 x 91.4 x 20.3 cm (30 x 36 x 8 in.).
The 1756-A17 includes inherent time-stamping capabilities for Sequence of Events (SOE) applications and supports the Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) feature for easy maintenance without system shutdown. Electronic keying prevents replacement errors, and comprehensive diagnostics help identify system or field-side faults quickly.
The chassis is c-UL-us listed for both general industrial use and Class I, Division 2, Group A, B, C, D hazardous locations, CSA certified, ATEX compliant for Zone 2 explosive atmospheres, and CE marked to EU EMC directives. Compatible power supplies include the 1756-PA72 and 1756-PB72. Operating temperature is 0–60°C at 5–95% non-condensing humidity.
