Allen Bradley Bulletin 1746 | SLC 500 Rack-Mount Power Supply, 120/240V AC Input (85–132V or 170–265V AC) Series C
The Allen-Bradley 1746-P2 is a modular rack-mount power supply for the SLC 500 platform, accepting a wide-range AC input of 85–132VAC or 170–265VAC at 47–63Hz — making it suitable for both 120VAC and 240VAC installations using a jumper-selectable input voltage setting. It installs in the left-most slot of any 1746 modular chassis and provides backplane power to all installed modules.
Internal current capacity is 5A at 5VDC and 0.96A at 24VDC, with a user-power output of 200mA at 24VDC for powering external devices. Typical line power requirement is 180VA, with a maximum inrush current of 20A. Input terminal to backplane isolation is rated at 1800V AC RMS for 1 second. The power supply is protected by a 1746-F2 fuse or equivalent.
A key improvement in the Series C revision is its overcurrent behavior: unlike Series A and B which undergo a full power supply shutdown and CPU fault on an overcurrent condition, the Series C limits shutdown to the 24VDC user output only while the CPU continues normal operation — requiring only correction of the overcurrent condition to recover, without reloading the user program.
The power supply features a hold-up time of 20ms at full load and 3000ms at no load, allowing the PLC processor to continue functioning briefly during input power interruptions. The module measures 5.5 x 2.9 x 5.7 inches and weighs 1.1 kg (2.5 lb), and operates between 0–60°C with a 5% current derating above 55°C.
