Allen Bradley Bulletin 1746 | Analog Output Module

The Allen-Bradley 1746-NO4V is a 4-channel analog voltage output module designed for the SLC 500 PLC series. It provides four non-isolated analog voltage output channels capable of operating within a ±10VDC signal range, making it suitable for a wide variety of control and monitoring applications.

The module converts digital signals from the CPU into analog voltage outputs using a factory-calibrated 16-bit two's complement binary communication format. It is compatible with both SLC 500 fixed and modular style hardware and mounts directly onto a 1746 chassis.

The 1746-NO4V can draw power from either the backplane or an external user-supplied 24VDC power supply. When the external 24VDC supply is connected, the module draws only 5VDC from the backplane bus, reducing backplane power consumption. Backplane current draw is 55mA at 5VDC and 145mA at 24VDC, with up to 500V AC isolation between output channels and the backplane.

The module uses a 14-bit R-2R ladder converter with a per-LSB output resolution of 1.221mV and a 2.5ms step response time. Each output point carries an overall accuracy of ±0.208% of full scale at 25°C ambient temperature, with an accuracy drift of ±54 ppm per degree Celsius. Typical output applications include motor drive speed control, PID-based temperature regulation, and analog signal control for valves and other industrial field devices.

The module is enclosed in an open-type enclosure, features an LED status indicator and a removable terminal block (RTB), and has a field wiring to backplane isolation rating of 500VDC. Maximum power dissipation is 3.78W, and the module operates between 0–60°C at 5–95% non-condensing relative humidity.
