The Allen-Bradley 1746-IA16 is a 16-channel digital AC input module for the SLC 500 platform, accepting AC signal voltages in the range of 85–132VAC. The module occupies a single slot in the SLC 500 chassis and can be installed in both fixed and modular hardware style controllers, locally or in an expansion rack.
The module features 20 terminals, with terminals 18 and 19 serving as internally connected commons, placing all 16 input points in a single common group. The removable terminal block (RTB) allows module replacement without disconnecting field wiring, simplifying maintenance. Compatible input devices include pushbuttons, limit switches, selector switches, and any other 120VAC discrete signaling devices.
Signal delay is 35ms maximum for ON-state and 45ms maximum for OFF-state transitions. Maximum off-state voltage is 30VAC with a maximum off-state current of 2mA. Nominal input current at 120VAC is 12mA. The module draws 85mA of backplane current at 5VDC with heat dissipation of 0.27W per point and a total of 4.8W.
The 1746-IA16 is designed for general-purpose 120VAC input applications including material handling, HVAC control, assembly operations, and process control. For 200/240VAC applications, the counterpart module is the 1746-IM16.
