The Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16 is a ControlLogix DC digital input module that uses Producer-Consumer technology, allowing input information and output status to be shared simultaneously among multiple ControlLogix controllers. All ControlLogix I/O modules mount directly in a ControlLogix chassis, and this module supports hot insertion and removal — it can be inserted or removed under power without shutting down the system.

The module provides 16 sinking discrete input channels organized into two groups of eight, with a nominal input voltage of 24VDC and an operating voltage range of 10–31.2VDC. It draws 100mA of backplane current at 5.1VDC and 2mA at 24VDC, with a total backplane power consumption of 0.56W and a maximum power dissipation of 5.1W at 60°C.

The module features 16 front-panel I/O status LED indicators, each illuminating yellow when its corresponding input is active. Users can assign individual input filtering times ranging from 0ms (no filtering) up to 18ms, providing flexibility for noise-sensitive applications or high-speed signal detection.

Isolation voltage is rated at 250V continuous between the field side and backplane, with basic insulation type-tested at 1350V AC for 2 seconds. The 1756-IB16 is widely used in machine control, process monitoring, packaging lines, and automated equipment monitoring. It is CE, CSA, UL/NRTL, and RCM certified and operates between 0–60°C at 5–95% non-condensing humidity.
