120Vac Isolated high current relay output module 3A at 120Vac 1.2 at 24Vdc
The Allen-Bradley 1746-OX8 is a digital contact output module featuring 8 individually isolated high-current relay contact outputs. Operating voltage spans 5–125VDC and 5–265VAC, making it one of the most versatile output modules in the SLC 500 family — capable of switching both AC and DC loads across a broad voltage range from a single module.
The 1746-OX8 Series A is rated for use in both hazardous and non-hazardous locations and includes optical isolation, input filtering, and built-in surge suppression to protect against high-voltage transients. It is well suited for controlling motor starters, relays, solenoids, and motors in demanding industrial environments.
Each of the 8 outputs is a normally open (N.O.) relay contact. At 120VAC, the relay contact is rated for a maximum make and break of 30A, while at 240VAC the maximum make is 15A and break is 1.5A, with a continuous rating of 5A and a make of 3600VA. For DC loads, maximum make and break at 125VDC is 0.22A each, and at 24VDC is 1.2A each. Continuous current per module is limited to 1440VA. Maximum signal delay is 10ms for both ON and OFF transitions, and off-state leakage current is 0mA — a key advantage of relay-based outputs over solid-state alternatives.
Backplane current consumption is 85mA at 5VDC and 90mA at 24VDC. Heat dissipation is 0.825W per energized point for a total of 8.6W. The module carries a 1500V isolation rating, meets NEMA ICS 2-230 noise immunity standards, and is UL, CSA, and CE certified with a Class I, Division 2 hazardous environment rating. Operating temperature is 0–60°C at 5–95% non-condensing humidity.
