The Allen-Bradley 1746-OB16 Series D is a digital DC output module in the SLC 500 series, featuring 16 sourcing output channels rated at 24VDC nominal with an operating voltage range of 10–50VDC. The module mounts in any available slot of the 1746 I/O chassis and draws 0.28A of backplane current at 5VDC.
The 1746-OB16 includes electronic protection against current overload and short circuit conditions, operating on a thermal cut-out principle. When an overload or short circuit occurs on any output channel, the module limits current on that channel within milliseconds once the temperature threshold is reached, while all unaffected channels continue to operate normally. An E-Fuse LED on the front panel illuminates when an overload or short circuit is detected, and the module supports auto-reset of affected channels after the fault clears.
Signal delay is 0.1ms for ON-state and 1ms for OFF-state under maximum resistive load, with a maximum off-state leakage current of 1mA. Continuous current per output point is 0.5A at 30°C and 0.25A at 60°C, with a surge current rating of 3A per point for 10ms. Backplane-to-output isolation is tested at 1500V AC, and total heat dissipation is 7.6W.
The module is UL and CSA certified with a Class I, Division 2 Hazardous Environments rating, and is designed to withstand 30G operating shock and 2.5G operating vibration at 57–200Hz. Operating temperature range is 0–60°C at 5–95% non-condensing humidity.
