120/240Vac, 16 Point AC output module
The Allen-Bradley 1746-OA16 is an SLC 500 discrete AC output module featuring 16 output channels arranged in two groups of eight, providing 120/240VAC nominal output voltage over an operating range of 85–265VAC at 47–63Hz. It is compatible as both a local and remote I/O module with any SLC 500 PLC processor, as well as CompactLogix and ControlLogix Programmable Automation Controllers.
The 1746-OA16 uses TRIAC-based outputs, which turn ON at any point on the AC line and turn OFF at the zero crossing — a design well-suited for general-purpose AC load switching applications. The module has a maximum surge current of 10.0A per point for 25ms, with a continuous current rating of 0.5A per point at 30°C and 0.25A per point at 60°C.
Signal delay is 1ms for ON-state and 11ms for OFF-state, with a maximum off-state leakage current of 2mA. The module includes a removable terminal block (RTB), filter circuitry, and optical coupling for signal noise reduction, along with front-panel LED indicators for easy output status monitoring and troubleshooting. Output values are accessed by SLC 500 processors via Ladder Logic programming.
The module draws 370mA of backplane current at 5VDC and operates at a total heat dissipation of 9.30W. It is rated for use between 0–60°C at 5–95% non-condensing relative humidity.
