Allen Bradley 1747-AIC Series B Isolated Link Coupler

The Allen-Bradley 1747-AIC is an SLC 500 Isolated Link Coupler that provides a shielded twisted-pair DH-485 communication interface, enabling SLC 500 fixed and modular style processors to be connected and multiplexed with a programming workstation, DH-485 network, and compatible peripheral devices. It is an externally mounted, panel-mountable device that does not occupy a chassis slot.

The 1747-AIC allows SLC 5/01, SLC 5/02, and SLC 5/03 processors to communicate over a DH-485 link. When connecting more than two SLC 500 processors on a DH-485 link, one isolated coupler is required per processor. Additionally, one link coupler should be connected at each end of the link if a computer or DTAM is connected at a distance greater than 20 feet (6.09 m).

A 1747-C11 cable (12 in., included with the coupler) connects the unit to the SLC 500 processor. A 6-position removable terminal block provides connection to the DH-485 communication cable. Peripheral devices such as the 1747-PIC Personal Interface Converter or 1747-DTAM-E Data Table Access Module connect via the standard 1747-C10 cable supplied with those devices. For peripheral devices located between 1.8 m (6 ft) and 6.1 m (20 ft) away, the 1747-C20 cable is used.

The maximum DH-485 network cable length is 1219 m (4,000 ft) total, measured from the first node to the last node on the network. Note: In Series A, terminal 5 was labeled DATA B and terminal 4 was labeled DATA A — the internal circuitry of Series A and Series B is identical, only the terminal labeling changed.

The 1747-AIC draws 85mA at 24VDC and 0mA at 5VDC. If connected to an SLC 500 processor, the unit is powered via the communication port; otherwise an external 24VDC power supply (20.4–28.8VDC) is required. The unit measures 1.5 x 6.8 x 6.5 inches, has a thermal dissipation of 2W, and operates between 0–60°C at 5–95% non-condensing humidity. It conforms to NEMA ICS 2-230, IEC1000-4-2, EN50081-2 Class A, and IEC1000-4-3 standards and is CSA certified.
